SPOONFEED’S GUIDE TO YOUR WEEKEND - 1/6

by Julian Smith (@DANGERSMITH)
Congratulations, you’ve made it through the first week of 2012, which means you’re (apparently) only less than fifty away from doomsday! Thus, the goal of this weekend’s update is to get you all to go out into our fair city and celebrate your lives through live music, tasty eats, and general, youthful debauchery! As always, the 614 area is chalk full of activity for you to enjoy — a trend that we are sure will continue through the new year! And don’t worry, Spoonfeed will be here to deliver yummy morsels of information about them until the bitter end.
Friday 1/6
My Best Friend’s Party will be putting on their first in a series of upcoming events designed to showcase the best in both Jamtronica bands and DJs. “Dubbed” Bass Jam, the show is taking place at Skully’s and starts at 9PM, but will go all night boasting sets from national staples like Freekbot (Freakbass and Tobotius) and Columbus natives Jahman Brahman as well as local talent like Burgle and Carma! I would personally go based on the fact that there’s an act called Heady Ruxpin.
I’ll also be having my usual Friday corned beef and pastrami Reuben and knish from Katzinger’s Deli in German Village. Meet me there for the best Jewish fare in Cap City (although Block’s Bagels in Bexley is a close second)!
Saturday 1/7
Stop by the gallery at MadLab (227 N. 3rd Street) before Gallery Hop for the opening reception of abstract collective Abx’s seventh show, which will be on display there until February 26th. Abx is packed to the gills with tremendous, creative, local artists, including Jay Moffett. Works from these artists will be shown throughout four MadLab theater productions. For more information, visit http://abxcolumbus.com and http://madlab.net
Local oddballs Outer Spacist are performing at The Summit and are bringing a stacked line up along with them. Not only is Columbus well represented with sets scheduled from MSSRS and Lieutenant Dance, but we get to sample the dreamy stylings of Detroit’s one man Shoegazer Turn to Crime! This one is a steal for only five bucks and begins at 10PM.
We here at Spoonfeed HQ are longtime fans, patrons, and supporters of most things that go down at Gallery Hop. I know it doesn’t really need to be said, but GET DOWN THERE and experience some of the finest Columbus has to offer.
Sunday 1/8
Sunday is a day reserved for rest and great breakfast. There are too many great spots for the most important meal of the day in Columbus to name them all here. In fact, they might even warrant their own article! Try Googling breakfast in Columbus in relation to your location and see what early morning deliciousness near you awaits! Perhaps you can let us know your favorite breakfast joint on Facebook and maybe yours will be where I send everyone next weekend? In the meantime, you can’t go wrong with Jack and Benny’s or First Watch!
Laugh off all those calories later on in the evening at The Funny Bone in Easton with comedian Josh Blue. For more details, hit uphttp://columbusfunnybone.com
This weekend will end like any other, but at least there is plenty of fresh content coming from us to you this week! Keep your eyes locked here unless you have yet to buy tickets to Shrek the Musical and I’ll see you next weekend for another helping of sweet, sweet Round Up! Thanks, as always, for reading and visiting! — SPNFD
